the forgotten treasure chest and a brand new vault.
After looking at the long list of songs i have on my pc, about 56 gigs of 'em, i'm rediscovering some of the old songs i've forgotten about and a lot of new ones. Some, dare I say, are japanese. Haha.. and how we've made fun of Suwandi for listening to anime and japanese game soundtracks.. mine are more of the indie bands like Acidman.. then there are also the other stuff like Depapepe and some classics from HipHop like Grandmaster Flash. Haha.. those were the days before i've ever heard a note from Frank Sinatra..
I remember how i got into Jazz. I was at HMV after just moving to singapore. Wandering around, i heard a little tune from behind those big glass doors with the golden frames. The Jazz and Classical room. I went inside and it was Frank. Then something caught my eye. An album art of the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Putting on those worn headphones they had on the stands, my feet started to tap. Suddenly it made sense. lol. I was sold. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's Americana Deluxe was the first Jazz/Swing album i've ever bought. Then i found an old collection of Frank Sinatra's songs in my sister's room. So that was it, it was all jazz since. With some side notes from other genres.
But now that I've acquired some new material from my older brother.. I think my iPod's a little more colorful. And yes, there's still 3 playlists on it. And they're still "Frank Sinatra", "Jazz" and "theRest".
I've been made a lot of fun of for listening to grandpa music. Only a handful i dare bring along to events. In fact only three i've ever dragged to a performance. Jazz@Chijmes (after an unfortunate event tho..), Michael Buble (my first ever real big concert) and the Jazz By The Beach series at Sentosa along with the Garden Party at the Botanical Gardens. Now I don't know if i'd dare to ask again. It's good on it's own but it is a lot nicer to have someone to your side that you can share the experience with and say, "How bout that?". Hoping at the same time that i'm not boring them. But i swear.. the moment the music starts, I don't care who you are, some part of ur body is just gonna start to sway or tap.
But whatever it is, music has always been the one thing i can count on to keep me company. I do get lost in it. Every one of them a story. Depending on how you tell that story, it'll make you happy or sad. It's funny how my mom didn't approve to any of us listening to them when we were younger. But i'm glad she had that change of heart.
